Assam CID would conduct the probe following the FIR filed by Angkita. Meanwhile, Assam Congress has issued show cause notice to her
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo moto cognisance of Assam Youth Congress (AYC) chief Angkita Dutta’s allegations that she was continuously harassed and discriminated on the basis of her gender by National Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV.
Angkita in her FIR filed yesterday in Dispur Police Station, also said that Srinivas had touched her inappropriately at a hotel in Raipur.
The NCW has shot a letter to Assam DGP GP Singh, and sought a report from the Assam police about action taken regarding the FIR filed by Angkita against Srinivas BV.
According to a statement from NCW, the organisation has requested the DGP’s office to conduct a prompt and impartial investigation into the case and report to NCW within a week.
It may be mentioned here that Angkita Dutta yesterday filed an FIR at the Dispur Police Station, Guwahati accusing IYC National President Srinivas of mental harassment as well as discrimination on the basis of gender and demanded an enquiry against them.
Meanwhile, the Assam CID has been entrusted to probe the case following the FIR and Dutta’s statement will soon be recorded by the police following which necessary action will be initiated.
Angkita’s FIR against Srinivas comes within hours of Srinivas filing a defamation case against her and sending a defamation notice to her terming her charges against him as frivolous and accusing her of using “utterly unparliamentary, undignified, defamatory, malicious words” against Srinivas BV.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma refused to make any comment on the matter saying it is an internal matter of the Congress, however referring to Angkita Dutta as a girl from Assam, CM Sarma said that the honour of Assam’s daughter must be protected.
On the other hand, Assam Congress chief Bhupen Bora issued a show cause notice to Angkita Dutta today. APCC has sought reply within a very short time to support her allegations. If Angkita fails to give a proper reply, then it may lead to her expulsion from the party.
