He also reviewed the security deployment and instructed the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and state police to maintain law and order.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a crucial high-level meeting in New Delhi today and directed authorities to ensure free movement of the public on all routes across Manipur starting March 8 and ordered strict action against anyone creating blockades. He also reviewed the security deployment and instructed the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and state police to maintain law and order.

The meeting, the first since President’s Rule was imposed in the state, was attended by top officials, including Union Home Secretary Gobind Mohan, MHA Adviser for the Northeast AK Mishra, IB Director Tapan Kumra Deka, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, senior officials from the state government, and top military commanders.

Today’s meeting focused on the progress of arms recovery and further measures to restore peace in Manipur. The Centre remains committed to stabilizing the region and ensuring public safety.

In February 2025, following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Centre imposed President’s Rule in the state, suspending the assembly from February 13.

Since then, authorities have made efforts to restore stability. On February 20, Governor Bhalla urged people to surrender illegal weapons, resulting in the recovery of 705 firearms, 9,743 rounds of ammunition, and 320 explosives by February 27. The deadline for surrendering weapons has now been extended until March 6.
