Union Home Minister Amit Shah will review the security situation in Manipur on Saturday, marking the first such high-level meeting after the imposition of President’s Rule in the state. According to sources, the meeting will be attended by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, senior officials of the Manipur government, and top commanders from the Army and paramilitary forces.

Manipur has been grappling with ethnic violence since May 2023, primarily between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. The conflict has resulted in the loss of an estimated 250 lives. In February 2025, shortly after the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Centre imposed President’s Rule in the state, placing the assembly under suspended animation from February 13.

Following the imposition of President’s Rule, Governor Bhalla made an appeal on February 20, urging individuals to surrender illegally held arms at the nearest police station, outpost, or security force unit within seven days. By February 27, a total of 705 arms, 9,743 rounds of ammunition, and 320 explosives had been surrendered across the state.

The Governor has also extended the deadline for surrendering illegal weapons until March 6, 2025. The upcoming meeting is expected to discuss the security situation, arms recovery progress, and further steps to restore stability in the conflict-hit state.
