Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited the heads of all political parties who have an MP either in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha for a meet on Wednesday.

In the crucial meeting, top on the agenda is the issue of “one nation, one election.” Other issues include celebration of 75 years of Independence in 2022 and 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary this year.

After giving the Niti Aayog meet a miss, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided not to attend the meet.

Other top party chiefs not attending are DMK’s MK Stalin and TRS’s K Chandrasekhar Rao, he had skipped Niti Aayog meet as well. TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu would also give the meeting a miss.

Congress is yet to decide on whether they would attend or not. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is holding a meeting of his party leaders at the party headquarters in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, senior party leader and Congress MP from Assam, Gaurav Gogoi said that Congress is unlikely to attend the meet. Speaking on the top agenda item of today’s meet – “one nation, one election,” Gogoi said this is just a diversionary tactic, Modi cannot set the agenda and call the shots too.

Political experts and analysts are terming this as effort to build team spirit and ensure a smooth and hurdle-free Parliament session.
