A delegation of the Asom Gana Parishad called on Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi today to yet again register its opposition to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
AGP leader Atul Bora said the Home Minister has assured the delegation that no decision will be taken against the interests of the people of Assam.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Assam Congress too called on Home Minister Rajnath Singh today and alleged that NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela was acting in an autocratic way.
A Joint Secretary of the Union Home Ministry and the Registrar General of India will visit Assam to take stock of the situation, the Congress said.
The Congress leaders including Debabrata Saikia and Ripun Bora also alleged that at a time when NRC updation process is going on in Assam, Foreigner Tribunals are issuing notices to various people and these people might not find their names in the final draft NRC as they will be labeled as doubtful citizens.
They further urged that the FT cases should be stopped temporarily for now and resumed after the final draft NRC is published.
