AFSPA lifted from Meghalaya, Act restricted to 8 PS in Arunachal

The government has also announced that armed forces special power act has been withdrawn from Meghalaya while in Arunachal Pradesh the jurisdiction of the act has been reduced from 11 to 8 police station areas besides Tirap, Chanlang and Longding districts.
Top Union Home Ministry officials have disclosed that the year 2007 recorded lowest insurgency incidents in 2 decades where causalities among security forces have come down from 289 in 1997 to 12 in 2017.
The MHA has also recorded that sustained counter insurgency operations against NDFB-S have resulted in the killing of 63 cadres and the arrest of 1052 cadres and linked man of the outfit between December 2014 and March 2018.
In another significant decision the centre has decided to increase the wages of home guard to Rs. 6000 per month from Rs. 150 per day. The honorarium for Village Defence Personnel has been doubled to 3000 per month from Rs. 15000 per month.
Besides, the allowance for each cadre of militant groups living in designated camps following truce with the authorities have been increased from Rs.3000 to Rs. 6000 per month.
The Ministry of Home has also noted insurgency has been wiped out from Tripura and Mizoram and there has been a marked improvement in the situation in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur.
