The 24 hour shut down called by the Joint Action Committee against the killing of former Zeliangrong Baudi President Athuan Abonmai came into effect since midnight yesterday.
The JAC had also met Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday late evening, before the shutdown came into effect. However, the third round of talks between the Chief Minister and the JAC failed to come to a positive settlement, since the JAC stills demands the suspension of the DC and SP of Tamenglong who were transferred after the Abonmai Killing.
Meanwhile, streets in Imphal wear a deserted look as shops and markets in the state capital remained closed.
