There are no major incidents which have been reported, especially the incidents about election campaigning or model code of conduct, Nagaland DGP said.

As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 draws near, preparations are underway for the first phase of voting on April 19th in Nagaland.

On preparations for the 2024 elections, Nagaland DGP, Rupin Sharma said, “Nagaland has one constituency for the Lok Sabha. We have deployed almost 20,000 personnel, which includes the district police, the Nagaland Armed police and IR battalions, and central armed police forces, also for the elections duty.”

“Besides this the state government is also pressing into service almost 9000 village guard personnel for providing security and documenting the security in Eastern Nagaland”, Sharma added.

He further stated that about 700 home guard personnel have tied up with the Assam Rifles for providing environmental security in the reason.

“By and large, the Lok Sabha elections in Nagaland will be very peaceful. There are no major incidents which have been reported, especially the incidents about election campaigning or model code of conduct. No major incidents have been reported. We expect that the polling will be peaceful throughout the state”, DGP added.

“The definition of criticality and vulnerability is as per the Election Commission laid down criteria, and the deployment is also as per that. Hopefully, we don’t expect anyone to be pressured either to vote or not to vote in those areas. Also, at the end of the day, if it is a voluntary process, I don’t think there is too much of a pressure on people to vote or not to vote”, Rupin Sharma said.

BJP-led National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has fielded Chumben Murry and the INC-led INDIA (Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance) has fielded S Supongmeren Jamir as their candidates.
