Normal life was paralysed in the four Manipur districts of Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel, and Tamenglong following a 12-hour bandh called by the United Naga Council (UNC) to protest the killing of a woman on Saturday evening in Imphal East. UNC, the apex Naga civil body, has sought justice for the killed woman within 48 hours.

Shops were shut and streets wore a deserted look in the four above mentioned districts as people preferred to stay home. The bandh called from 6 AM this morning till 6PM today, did not see much response in the districts of Kamjong and Noney which too are dominated by Nagas settled in Manipur.

The decision for the bandh call was taken at an emergency meeting held in Senapati on July 16. The UNC urged the state government to take swift action and apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime. The UNC demanded a Judiciary Inquiry Committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the ‘cold-blooded killing’.

The UNC has also warned further agitation if it’s demand is not fulfiled and the miscreants caught within 2 days that is by end of today.
