One among the four persons killed has been identified as a Nepali national. The identity of the rest is yet to be ascertained
Has law and order gone for a toss in Meghalaya? This is the question that is uppermost in people’s minds after the recovery of four heavily mutilated, decomposed bodies in a forest in the outskirts of Umpleng village. This incident comes within months of three charred bodies found in unmarked shallow graves in East Garo Hills in mid April this year.
The heavily mutilated bodies were found with their hands and feet tied and cut marks on the neck.
East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad informed Northeast Live that the four decomposed bodies were found by some workers early this morning.
So far, the police have been able to identify just one person as a Nepali national, the identity of the other three is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, on April 10, a 52-year-old daily wage labourer succumbed to his injuries after he was attacked by unidentified masked men. The incident took place at Mawlai.
The three charred bodies were found on April 18 in unmarked shallow graves in East Garo Hills. The deceased were identified as Jamar Ali, Zahidul Islam and Noor Ahmed, and they were residents of the Dolguma area in Assam’s Goalpara.
On March 27 this year the Ichamati twin murders rocked the state when two persons- Ishan Singh and Sujit Dutta- were killed in two separate incidents in Ichamati and Dalda.
