Indian film RRR won Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’ at the 80th Golden Globe Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles

Internationally acclaimed Assam filmmaker, Rima Das expressed her happiness over MM Keeravani’s Naatu Naatu song from SS Rajamouli’s RRR winning a Golden Globe trophy.

Indian film RRR won Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’ at the 80th Golden Globe Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles today (January 11).

“So lovely to hear MM Keeravaani’s won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ as they’re on the road to the Oscars. I have watched over the years how Pan Nalin showcases his films with so much passion and love.Happy to see Last Film Show making waves. My best wishes to RRR, Last Film Show, All That Breathes and Elephant Whispers for their Oscars journey. There have been some lovely international films last year, of which Aftersun, Trangle of sadness, Decision to Leave were my favourites,” Rima Das wrote in a post on Facebook.

“Naatu Naatu” was competing against “Carolina” (Taylor Swift) from Where the Crawdads Sing and “Ciao Papa” in the Best Original Song category (Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, and Guillermo del Toro) – “Hold My Hand” from Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro (Lady Gaga, BloodPop, and Benjamin Rice) – Top Gun: Maverick (Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson) and “Lift Me Up” – Wakanda Forever: Black Panther.

The song was sung by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, with lyrics by Chandrabose.

The song’s Globes victory raises hopes that “Naatu,” which previously entered the Academy’s shortlist of 15 songs, will become the rare song by Indian composers to receive an Oscar nomination later this month.

“Naatu Naatu” is a song of celebration. We all wanted to showcase our strength and energy in the song, said Keervani.

“Naatu Naatu” came out of nowhere to beat Hollywood stalwarts like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Rihanna.

In the now viral behind-the-scenes moment from the award night, Rihanna is seen walking past team RRR’s table. As Rihanna turns to congratulate the team she lost to, Ram Charan waves back as the singer turns to leave.
