27 lakh persons in Assam who were added in the supplementary list of NRC published in Aug 2019 have received Aadhar cards. SC asks Centre to look into matter.
The Supreme Court has given the Centre two weeks to look into the issuance of Aadhaar cards to nearly 27 lakh people in Assam who were added to the National Register of Citizens’ supplementary list, which was released in August 2019.
A bench comprised of Chief Justice U.U. Lalit and Justice Bela M. Trivedi heard the matter.

Citizens whose names appeared on the first National Register of Citizens (NRC) list were said to have received their Aadhar cards, but this was not the case for those whose names appeared on the second list, according to a petition.
R. Venkataramani, India’s attorney general, sought two weeks to look into the matter.
The case will now be heard on November 9, 2022.
