Tripura Rath Yatra Tragedy: CM announces compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the dead and Rs 2.5 lakh for those severely injured

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for those who have lost their lives in the Rath Yatra tragedy at Kumarghat in Unakoti district yesterday. Chief Minister Saha also said that Rs 2.5 lakh would be provided to those who have suffered injuries above 60% and Rs 74000 for those with partial injuries between 40-60%.
In a tweet the Chief Minister wrote, “Inspected the place of occurrence at Kumarghat where the tragedy during Ulta Rath occurred claiming seven lives & leaving 16 devotees injured today.
Met the injured persons who are undergoing treatment in hospitals & inquired about their health condition.
The state government has decided to provide ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased & Rs. 2.5 lakh for those suffered severe (above 60%) injuries & Rs. 74,000 for those who have been partially (40-60%) injured.”


Chief Minister Saha also directed the Chief Secretary to ensure that there are no lapses in the treatment of the injured persons. On Wednesday night itself, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha boarded a train from Agartala to reach Kumarghat for taking stock of the situation.
Chief Minister Saha has ordered for a probe into the incident which has claimed 7 lives so far and left over a dozen people injured. The probe will be headed by the District Magistrate.
The Chief Minister said,”There will be an inquiry led by the DM and a report will be submitted. After recieving the report we will take adequate steps so that such incidents never happen in the future. Everything will proceed as per the report submitted to us.”
The death toll in the tragic Ulta Rath Yatra tragedy in Tripura has risen to 7. Another death was reported after a victim succumbed injuries while being brought for better treatment in Agartala.
The incident occured after a chariot of Lord Jagannath hit high-voltage power lines at Kumarghat in Tripura’s Unakoti district yesterday.
The Ulta Rath Yatra marks the culmination of the Rath Yatra festival that began on June 20.
