Over 1.33 lakh ganja plants destroyed in Tripura, 70 acres cleared

In the ongoing year, a total of 3,62,400 plants have been destroyed in various parts of Tripura

A massive combined eradiction drive, conducted by BSF along with the Central Reserve Police Force, Narcotics Control Bureau, Forest Department, Tripura police and Excise department destroyed 1,33,500 illegally cultivated Ganja plants in the village areas of Gajeria and Chelikhola under Bishalgarh police station in Sepahijala district, Tripura.

According to a BSF Tripura release, approximately 70 acres of land were cleared through the cutting, uprooting and burning of these plants.

In the ongoing year, a total of 3,62,400 plants have been destroyed in various parts of Tripura, leading to the reclamation of approximately 255 acres of land.

The coordinated efforts of BSF and other like-minded agencies aim to bring about a change in societal mindset, raising awareness about the menace of narcotics, the release said.

Earlier in the year a release from the Tripura Chief Minister’s office stated that the Neesha-Mukt Abhiyan (drug-free) campaign has been a success in the state. After assuming office Chief Minister Manik Saha had resolved to free the state from drug abuse.
