The approval came after Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 15 February.
In a significant relief effort, the Central Government has approved an additional Rs 288.93 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to support recovery efforts in flood-affected areas of Tripura. The aid follows the devastating floods that struck the state in August last year, causing widespread destruction and displacing thousands.
The approval came after Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 15 February. During their discussion, Saha highlighted the extensive damages and the urgent need for relief measures. Shah assured the state of full central support to help address the crisis effectively.
Expressing his gratitude, Chief Minister Saha emphasised the importance of the assistance in rebuilding affected areas and resuming stalled development projects. “This additional central assistance will definitely be a boon to the disaster-affected people in the state,” he stated, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their unwavering support.
The Tripura Floods of 2024 severely impacted infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods. The newly sanctioned funds will aid rehabilitation, and infrastructure restoration, and provide compensation to affected families. Additionally, the financial assistance is expected to enhance the state’s disaster preparedness, ensuring a more resilient response to future calamities.
The Central Government’s support reaffirms its commitment to aiding disaster-hit states and helping them recover swiftly.
