Voting for Sikkim Panchayat polls: Elaborate security arrangements put in place to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of polls.
Voting for the Sikkim Panchayat elections will begin at 8:30 am today with all arrangements put in place.
Polling for the rural body polls will be held in 1147 polling stations for the 122 Zilla Panchayat Territorial constituencies spread over 6 districts of Gangtok, Pakyong, Mangan, Geyzing, Soreng, and Namchi.
A total of 1,147 wards will elect new Panchayats as their representatives along with 197 Gram Panchayat Units. However, the voting for the Sikkim Panchayat elections is likely to be delayed in few places owing to very cold weather.
Elaborate secruity arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections. Over 3 lakh voters are likely to exercise their franchise to elect representatives of their choice.
