Sikkim man washed away by strong currents of Badarey Khola (stream); search underway

A man was washed away by the Badarey Khola (stream) in Sikkim early this morning.

Laxuman Karki, a resident of 4th Mile Omchung, under Geyzing district, West Sikkim, was on his way to collect fodder for his cattle when he was swept away by the violently flowing Badarey stream.

The search operation has been intensified with the help of police personnel and villagers.

Agriculture minister and area MLA Loknath Sharma visited the spot and met the family members of the victim.

Due to last night’s incessant rain, the stream was swollen with an increased volume of water.
