Former Sikkim Chief Minister and SDF President Pawan Kumar Chamling said that the SKM-government led by Chief Minister PS Tamang should give a financial aid of Rs 50 lakh and one acre of land to each of the landslide-hit families of Pathing. The CM visited Pathing village today and met the affected families.
“I was born in this village. This is my village, these are my people. I feel the pain of the people of this village. The Sikkim government should give Rs 50 lakh and an acre of land to all the families who have been displaced by the frequent landslides hitting Pathing village. The money and land will help the families to build their houses and resettle in a safer place. Till then the state government should take care of the food and shelter of all the affected families,” the former CM said.
The former CM also requested the Centre to look into the hardships and troubles of the people of Sikkim and requested Governor Ganga Prasad to apprise the Centre about the plight of the people of Pathing and “give a clear and true picture about the condition of the people of Sikkim”.
Chief Minister PS Tamang had visited Pathing on Monday, November 28 after a series of landslides had hit Pathing over the weekend where over 70 families were affected. The CM had given instructions to the concerned departments to expedite the land acquisition process so that the affected families can be relocated. The state government had also announced Rs 1,30,000 from the disaster management fund and financial aid of Rs 50,000 from the CM’s Relief Fund.
