With just few hours to go for voting in Nagaland, tragic news came in this afternoon. A vehicle carrying polling officials and security personnel met with an accident leaving the driver dead and four security personnel injured. The driver died on the spot and the injured have been rushed to nearby medical centre.
The accident took place near Yikhum village under Wokha district between the helipath and Doyang Hydro Power Plant.
Reportedly, the vehicle was on its way for election duty towards one of the polling stations under 39-Sanis assembly constituency.
Reports suggest 15 passengers were on board the vehicle. Brake failure is said to have caused the fatal accident.
This is the second such incident. Earlier in the day, a polling officer died and several security personnel were injured when their vehicle over-turned in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya. The polling official and the security personnel were heading towards 44/8 Jangrapara LP School of 44 Raksamgre assembly constituency.
Both Nagaland and Meghalaya will vote tomorrow.
