The draft agreement between the government of India, the Government of Nagaland and the ENPO has almost been finalized and is expected to be released for final consultations by October 15.
Highly placed sources told Northeast Live that immediately after the draft is fully ready, the representatives of the Central Government, ENPO and the Government of Nagaland will meet in New Delhi for a final round of discussions before an agreement is signed.
Earlier this week, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his cabinet colleagues met MHA Special Adviser AK Mishra in New Delhi and requested for a working paper detailing a possible agreement so that they could study it before coming up with their comments on the approach for a solution to the ENPO issue.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and several Ministers were also present in the meeting with Mishra.
ENPO has been demanding a separate state carved out of Nagaland’s six eastern districts — Mon, Kiphire, Longleng, Tuensang, Shamator and Noklak, which are home to seven of the 17 tribes of the state.
According to sources the Centre is keen to provide an autonomous council or a territory comprising the six eastern districts in Nagaland. Sources had earlier told your channel that the government may also bring about 40 elective seats and 9 nominated members in the proposed administrative structure.
