A 16-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar will visit poll-bound Nagaland from January 13-15, 2023 to review the election preparedness with all deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, enforcement agencies both State and Central, and meet with all recognised political parties, according to a DIPR report.

Ahead of ECI’s visit to the poll-bound state, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar met with the representatives from various political parties on Monday.

V Shashank Shekhar said that the commission will also interact with the chief secretary and DGP, among other high state officials during the visit.

V Shashank Shekhar further stated that the commission had already sent out 50 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for election duty and more would be arriving.

Many preparations and training at the state level has been going on for the past few months, he added.

Meanwhile, V Shashank Shekhar has urged all political parties and other interested parties to exercise greater caution when relying on information “we are passing on, especially closer to election where sometimes false information and rumours were circulated.”

Shekhar also expressed the hope that citizens will give all information to the various national, state, and state authorities, as well as law enforcement agencies, in order to ensure a free and fair election.

He urged everyone to come together for a free and fair election without violence or re-voting.
