‘Eastern Nagaland Tribes do not want to participate in elections’: Theja Therieh
First Published: 10th December, 2022 16:00 IST
Pushing for election without solution, without addressing the issue of ENPO, will not solve any problem, Therieh said.
The opposition to elections in the poll-bound state is getting louder by the day with more organizations expressing their reservations on the issue although for different reasons.
While the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization or ENPO has called for a boycott of Assembly elections over the separate state issue, organizations like the Nagaland People’s Action Committee are opposing elections without a solution to the Naga Political issue first. Not only this, organizations like the CNTC or the Central Nagaland Tribes Council are demanding imposition of President’s Rule in the state in order to facilitate solution to the Naga Political issue.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live correspondent Sarah Konyak in Kohima, Convenor of Nagaland People’s Action Committee Thejah Therieh stated that along with the Eastern Nagaland people, the other tribes of the state also do not want to participate in the elections.
Therieh, however, maintained that the reasons for non-participation are different. While ENPO is boycotting polls over Frontier Nagaland demand the others believe that pushing for election without solution to the Naga political issue will be meaningless and won’t solve any problem.
While admitting that the grievances of the ENPO is genuine, Therieh, however, stated that dividing the state further is not the solution and ways and means should be found to address the issues raised by the ENPO.
