NECDC celebrates best performers from past season, Sikkim’s Sumit Singh wins ‘North East Player of the Season’ award

Sumit Singh won the award on the back of a stunning season with both bat and ball

The North East Cricket Development Committee celebrated the best performers from the past season in the 2nd North East Cricket Development Committee Achiever’s Nite and 8th North East Cricket Development Committee Conclave held at Aijal Club, Aizawl.

During the event, awards in various categories such as Under-15, Under-16, Under-19, Under-25, Senior Category, Emerging Player of the Season and Player of the season Award were distributed.

Sumit Singh of Sikkim won the ‘North East Player of the Season’ award, while Manipur’s P. Jotin Singh was named the ‘Emerging Player of the Season’.

Cricketer Johan Lalbiakkima of Ramhlun Veng, Aizawl, who was awarded Under-16 Boys’ best bowler, and Thelma Landinthari, who received Under-16 Girls’ best bowler, were the only recipients of the 2nd NECDC Achiever’s Award from Mizoram.

They received the awards in the event held on Friday night, July 21.

Sumit Singh won the award on the back of a stunning season with both bat and ball.

Sumit made his first-class debut for Services in the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy on 1 November 2010. He scored 599 runs in Ranji Trophy at an average of 59.9 including two centuries. He also picked 28 wickets and two six-wicket hauls.

Best Batter – Ruchi (Arunachal)
Best Bowler – Thelma Laldinthari (Mizoram)
Best Wicketkeeper – Peninah Subba (Sikkim)

Under 16 Boys
Best Batter – Siddhant Pathak (Arunachal)
Best Bowler – Johan Lalbiakkima (Mizoram)
Best Wicketkeeper – H. Ryngkhlem (Meghalaya)

Under 15 Girls
Best Batter – Najmeen Khatun (Nagaland)
Best Bowler – Shreya Marak (Meghalaya)
Best Wicketkeeper – Taniya Ningthoujam (Manipur)

Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga attended the event as the chief guest.

The Chief Minister congratulated all the participating states in the event, where the guardians of cricket sport in the Northeastern states had come together for the progress of the biggest sports discipline in India.

Cricket game had not gained popularity in Mizoram for a long time but, with the help of various contributors and their avid participation, the State now boasts of Suaka Cricket Ground and has also witnessed many other developments in the sport, the Chief Minister said.
