Mizoram Polls 2023: BJP releases list of 12 candidates. Check full list here

Ruling MNF and opposition parties, Congress and ZPM have announced candidates for all 40 seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced the names of 12 candidates for the 40-seat Mizoram Assembly elections scheduled for November 7.

As per the BJP’s candidate list, BJP Mizoram unit president Vanlalhmuaka will contest from Dampa constituency, Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo from Mamit constituency, Malsawmtluanga from Hachhek constituency, and former MNF leader K. Beichhua, who recently joined the BJP, would be contesting from Saiha constituency.

It may be mentioned here that the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and Congress have already announced their candidates for the upcoming elections. It is going to be an interesting battle as MNF, ZPM and Congress are contesting all the 40 seats.

The candidates list for MNF includes two women and 15 new faces. Chief Minister and MNF President Zoramthanga will contest from Aizawl East-I, the seat he won in the 2018 assembly polls, while Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia will fight from Tuichang assembly seat and try to retain it. Except for 25 sitting legislators, all the other MNF nominees are fresh faces.

ZPM was the first to announce its candidates list. ZPM’s founder and president and chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma would be contesting from Serchhip, his home turf.

Congress party has fielded its state unit chief Lalsawta from Aizawl West-III, Lalsanglura Ralte has been nominated from the Aizwal East-I constituency which is currently held by Mizo National Front (MNF) chief and Chief Minister Zoramthanga. Lalrindika Ralte will contest from Hachhek constituency, Lalhmingthanga Sailo from Dampa and Lalrinmawia will contest from Aizawl North-II.

Congress has fielded Meriam L Hrangchal as a candidate from the 33 – Lunglei South ST constituency.
The counting of votes will take place on December 3.

A total of 8.52 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the polls. There are 4.13 lakh male voters, 4.39 lakh female voters, and 50,611 first-time voters, Election Commission of India data said.
