Two Myanmar nationals arrested in Mizoram for smuggling foreign currency notes worth around Rs 1. 48 crore

The operation was conducted by a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Mizoram Police, based on intelligence inputs about cross-border smuggling activities.

Two Myanmar nationals were arrested in south Mizoram’s Siaha district while attempting to smuggle foreign currency notes worth around Rs 1.48 crore, the Assam Rifles said on Monday.

The operation was conducted by a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Mizoram Police, based on intelligence inputs about cross-border smuggling activities.

Taking to X, the Assam Rifle wrote, “#AssamRifles along with Mizoram Police apprehended two Myanmarese attempting to smuggle a significant amount of foreign currency, totalling One crore forty eight lakh and seventy thousand (1.48 Crore) in Siaha District, Mizoram on 10 January 2025.”

Investigation is underway.
