Rasik Mohan Chakma and the 15 MDCs have already their resignations to the MNF President
Big blow for Mizo National Front (MNF) as Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) Chairman Rasik Mohan Chakma and 15 others have resigned and are set to join Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) party ahead of the Assembly elections later this year.
One Congress MDC is also joining ZPM.
The ‘disgruntled’ MNF leaders have already sent their joint resignation letter signed by Rasik Mohan Chakma and the 15 MDCs. As per inputs, Rasik Mohan Chakma is unhappy after he was denied a party ticket by the MNF high command for contesting the Assembly elections.
Instead of Rasik, the MNF has decided to field Durjya Dhan Chakma from Tuichawng assembly constituency where RM Chakma had won earlier. If sources are to be believed, Rasik Mohan Chakma will be contesting the assembly elections on a ZPM ticket from the Tuichawng constituency.
RM Chakma and the MDCs are likely to join the ZPM on Wednesday.
The Chakma Autonomous District Council currently comprises 20 elected MDCs (Member of District Council) and four nominated MDCs. Among the 20 elected MDCs, 18 belong to the MNF party, with one each from the Congress and BJP.
The joining of RM Chakma and his aides in the ZPM is likely to make an impact on the political landscape especially ahead of the assembly elections.
