Paul Lyngdoh informed that the project to make Khyndailad a pedestrian zone will start in June

Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Thursday that registered hawkers who comply with the law will be rehabilitated in accordance with the state’s rules and regulations.

“The registered workers will be shifted to government-owned market complexes such as MUDA, Polo Market, and the parking lot at Iewduh,” Paul Lyngdoh informed.

Speaking on turning Khyndailad (Police Bazar) into a pedestrian zone, Lyngdoh informed that two parts will be pedestrians only: the first one leading towards Jail Road from PB Point and the second one leading towards Umsohsun.

He said that the government’s decision to declare Khyndailad a pedestrian zone is to encourage people to walk around, enjoy good music, and see how Shillong does not claim to be a music capital but actually is a music capital.

“We will encourage young singers to be all around that stretch, and it will be more in the interest of the citizens of Shillong.” “It is better for them to hear musicians than to hear hawkers screaming,” he added.
Paul Lyngdoh further informed that the project to make Khyndailad a pedestrian zone will start in June.
