Meghalaya To Host Two-Day Tourism Conclave In Shillong

First Published: 3rd August, 2024 20:56 IST

The conclave comes in response to concerns raised by the MRTF, a coalition of 15 organizations and traditional bodies from Khasi Jaintia Hills

The Meghalaya Government is set to host a two-day Tourism Conclave in Shillong, bringing together key stakeholders from the tourism industry.

The event, scheduled for August 6 and August 7, will include transporters, hoteliers, resort owners, local guides, and representatives from the various shnongs and villages that experience significant tourist traffic.

“We will be holding a two-day conclave next Tuesday and Wednesday, where I will be chairing the inaugural session while Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will attend on the second day to discuss tourism-related issues and initiatives,” Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh informed the media.

“We will invite transporters, hoteliers, resort owners, local guides, and representatives from the various shnongs, especially the localities and villagers where there is a huge footfall of tourists,” Lyngdoh added.

The conclave comes in response to concerns raised by the Meghalaya Rural Tourism Forum (MRTF), a coalition of fifteen organizations and traditional bodies from the Khasi Jaintia Hills.

The forum recently urged the state government to ensure law and order and maintain peace, emphasizing the importance of a secure environment for tourism.

They expressed their determination not to remain passive in the face of disturbances and lawlessness caused by NGOs, which they believe could negatively impact tourist safety and livelihoods.

The forum’s call to action reflects growing concerns over the potential impact of local unrest on the state’s tourism industry.
