“The CM has assured us that the government will soon announce the expert committee”, VPP Chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit post the meeting

Voice of People Party (VPP) chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to get an update about the constitution of an Expert Committee pertaining to the Reservation Policy in the state.

Soon after meeting Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, VPP chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said, “We have just met the CM as a follow up action in connection with the reservation policy. We wanted to know the status of the Expert Committee. That was the main objective of the meeting.”

Speaking on the assurances given by the Meghalaya Chief Minister to the VPP on the issue, Basaiawmoit informed, “The CM has assured us that the government will soon announce the expert committee and now they are working on the Chairman, which means that the remaining job of the government is to get the right chairman for the expert committee.”

Affirming the VPP’s stand on the Reservation Policy, the party chief said, “We have made our stand very clear, review the reservation policy, constitute an expert committee and also we have indication to the government that when it comes to reservation between Garos and Khasis, we expect it to be proportionate.”

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “Had a productive meeting with VPP Chief Ardent Basaiawmoit and party leaders. I appreciate their valuable input and concerns for the well-being of our people. As a Government, we welcome suggestions and feedback from all parties. Together, we can work towards the overall growth and welfare of our nation.”

On June 6, the Meghalaya Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had cleared the proposal to constitute a three-member search committee to select members for the Expert Committee to review the state’s Job Reservation Policy. The three-member search committee comprises of the Chief Secretary and has one member each from the Law Department and Personnel Department.
