Meghalaya CM stuck inside his Tura office, mob gheraoes CM’s office, pelts stones

In a big development, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was under siege today evening after angry mob gheraoed his Tura office, pelted stones and attacked his office while he was inside in a meeting with his cabinet colleague and PHE minister Marcuise N Marak.
CM Sangma had reached Tura today from Shillong to meet members of A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) who have been protesting, sitting in hunger strike for 14 days now demanding Tura be declared the winter capital and also review of the Reservation Policy and the Roster System.
CM Sangma had held a peaceful discussion with the agitating organisations for over 3 hours at his office in Tura. Suddenly angry crowd targeted the CM’s office and started pelting stones and throwing chairs and other items at the office. Police resorted to firing tear gas shells to disburse the crowd. At least 5 police personnel have been injured, as per initial reports.
According to official sources, some people with ‘vested interests’ started pelting stones and gheraoed the CM’s office.
The Chief Minister along with Minister Marak and several other officials were stuck for several hours.
At the end of the meeting with the A’chik members, the CM invited the agitating groups for discussion in presence of all stakeholders in Shillong tentatively on August 8 or 9.
