Latest political developments at KHADC their internal matter: Meghalaya CM Sangma

“We have always maintained from the government side that the matters related to the autonomous district councils are their internal matters”, said CM Sangma

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday made his government’s stand clear and said that the latest political development in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is entirely the autonomous council’s internal matter and the state government does not intervene in any of the political situations of any of the autonomous district council.

Speaking to media regarding the recent development in KHADC, CM Sangma said,”We have always maintained from the government side that the matters related to the autonomous district councils are their internal matters and normally the state government does not intervene in any of the political situations that are there in any of the district councils, be it Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council or Jaintia Hills or Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.”
“Whenever the information comes to them or to us, we used to pass on and try to resolve the issues, but as I said the situation was such this kind of steps had to be taken so. Hence it is an internal matter and it is a separate matter from the government. We normally do not intervene in the day-to-day functions of the district council,” said CM Sangma.

It is an autonomous body, a separate government and hence even politically they have their own internal dynamics which are very complicated in nature and hence we have always maintained that is a different chapter, a different matter and we do not intervene in their overall movement,” CM Sangma added.

CM Conrad Sangma said that the government have always encouraged the ADCs to work on the different challenges which are there.

CM Sangma’s comments gains significance as it came in the backdrop of the ouster of UDP (an ally in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance that forms the Conrad Sangma led Meghalaya government) MDC from the post of Chief Executive Member of the KHADC where NPP and Congress MDCs are said to have teamed up against the UDP CEM voting him out of the CEM office.
