Citing example of rigorous visa restrictions in Israel, Lyngdoh said that it is a fusion of various govt initiatives to ensure the state caters to the right kind of tourists

Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Thursday that the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) will not impact the flow of tourists into Meghalaya.

Minister Paul Lyngdoh was talking to reporters on the side-lines of the Indian Responsible Tourism State Summit and Awards 2023—Meghalaya Chapter programme at the State Convention Centre in Shillong.

Citing the example of rigorous visa restrictions in Israel versus ILP, Minister Lyngdoh said that it is a fusion of various government initiatives to ensure the state caters to the right kind of tourists.

“A country like Israel for instance is very difficult for visitors to access. But the tourism revenue of Israel is one of the top in the world. Their visa system more rigorous than the ILP being implemented in some of the states. Therefore, it is a fusion of various government initiatives to ensure that we cater to the right kind of tourists,” Minister Paul Lyngdoh said.

Responding to queries like if ILP will hamper tourism in Meghalaya, Minister Lyngdoh said, “It has not hampered Israel, the United States. Why should it hamper Meghalaya?”
