Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma celebrated this achievement on social media and wrote on X, “Meghalaya’s ‘Whistling Village’, Kongthong bags the Best Tourism Village Award in the Bronze category organised by @tourismgoi. Apart from its scenic beauty, Kongthong is unique for its tradition to identify each villager with a unique tune given to them at birth by their mothers called ‘Jingrwai Lawbei’ which translates to ‘Mother’s Love Song’, depicting the beauty of our matrilineal culture and a mother’s unwavering love for her children. My congratulations to Kongthong Village for the award!!”
