One held with 696 gm brown sugar in Manipur

In a major breakthrough in the war against drugs, the Manipur Police seized a huge consignment of suspected brown sugar on Monday from Churachandpur and arrested one person in the connection.
Police seized a total of 54 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar from a EECO van at Dongjang village in Sangaikot Tehsil in Churachandpur district of the state.
The arrested person was identified as Nehminthang Kipgen, the driver of the van.
The seized suspected brown sugar was weighs 696 grams.
As per sources, the Churachanpur police on Monday evening received information that a EECO Van travelling from Khuangkhai to Churachanpur was transporting illegal substances hidden inside the vehicle for distribution in different places.
Based on a tip-off, a team of CCP-PS under the command of SI Letminlal Suantak was dispatched to the area for surveillance and interception.
Later, when police intercepted the EECO van and and checked thoroughly, 41 soap cases were found concealed in a false compartment underneath the vehicle while another 13 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar was found in a special cabinet under the driver’s seat making it a total of 54 soap cases.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act , 1985.
Further investigation is underway.
