As the dates of the Manipur Assembly Elections draw closer political temperature is soaring with every passing day. It was a festive atmosphere at the Apollo Ground in Tamenglong, one of the hill districts of Manipur, as people from all walks of life both young and old, mostly women congregated to take part in an Naga People’s Front rally.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Manipur NPF president and forest minister Awangbow Newmai said that he will continue with the mission to bring peace in the state.

Newmai said that the NPF would convey to the Centre that the Naga people want early peace and would continue to pursue the matter. Newmai who is contesting from the 52 Tamei assembly constituency, said he will also work on the improvement of roads, the education sector, and also on the health sector.

Northeast Live also spoke to Khang-thua-nang Pamei who is also contesting from the 53 Tamenglong assembly constituency. Pamei said his topmost priority will be to uplift the tribal people in Manipur, and to safeguard the rights, land and properties of the hill people.
