Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh asserted that most of the displaced people, because of the civil unrest in the state, have returned to their native places.
Speaking to Northeast Live Singh said, “Many people have started going back to their native places, only in a few areas, particularly two-three areas , due to the prevailing situation we cannot force them to go. The situation is becoming normal, peace is being restored, so everything will be settled.”
Responding to Northeast Live’s report on IDP’s reluctance to move to government-built pre-fabricated houses, Singh said, “Most of the pre-fabricated structures are complete and many people have been shifted there but few are left. We are trying to convince the people because now it is the winter season and they are afraid of shifting from one place to another due to the cold weather. So when the season changes we will do it.”

Singh was speaking on the sidelines of the Manipuri Unity Convention programme organized by AAMYA (All Assam Manipuri Youth Association) in Silchar, Assam where the Manipur CM advocated the unity of various Manipuri tribes for the advancement of the people of the state. He also praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as a prominent figure in Northeast politics.

Earlier, Northeast Live reported that Manipur IDPs were reluctant to move to government built pre-fabricated houses. Their reasons include meager size of the newly-built houses, difficult terrain, militancy fears among others.
