Manipur upbeat ahead of Sangai Fest; Curtain Raiser event in Imphal, Mao

Manipur: Grand preparations underway with just only 5 days to go for the Sangai Festival. Bollywood superstars to grace grand festival.

Manipur is upbeat with only 5 days to go for the iconic Sangai Festival,which will be celebrated after a gap of 2 years owing to COVID-19 induced lockdown. Chief Minister N Biren Singh launched the Curtain Raiser for the festival in Imphal in presence of a host of dignitaries.

The tourism extravaganza will kickstart on November 21 and conclude on November 30. Various programs have been lined up in 13 different venues across the state to mark the occasion.

This edition of the Sangai Festival is based on the theme of “Festival of Oneness.” Bollywood actors Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen will also be part of the grand festival.

Former Miss Universe and actor Lara Dutta will be showstopper for fashion show on November 26 at Churachandpur while former Miss Universe and actor Sushmita Sen will be showstopper for fashion show on the closing day at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre.

Fashion designer Robert Naorem said that the duo adorning Manipuri traditional attire and walking the ramp will be a big push for Manipur tourism and handloom and textiles products of Manipur.

Speaking to Northeast Live on the sidelines of the curtain raiser event, World Champion boxer and Arjuna awardee Laishram Sarita appealed to the people across the length and breadth of the country and beyond to take part in the celebration and witness the beauty of the endemic ‘Sangai’ deer.
