Manipur unrest: Woman shot dead in Imphal East; UNC calls for 12-hr shutdown

The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the killing of a 57-year-old Maring Naga woman at Sawombung (Ukhrul road), Imphal East District. The UNC has also demanded justice within 48 hours.
Condemning the incident in strongest terms the UNC has called for a 12-hour shutdown in all Naga inhabited areas of violence affected Manipur from 6 AM tomorrow.
In an emergency meet held in Senapati today, the UNC said that the perpetrators of the crime should be brought to book within the next 48 hours.
57-year-old Lucy Marem was shot dead by miscreants in Imphal East last evening. The UNC also demanded the state government to constitute a Judiciary Inquiry Committee to probe the cold-blooded killing.
N. Gonmei Pajan, Vice President reacting to the incident said,”The UNC condemns such barbaric acts committed on Nagas despite knowing our identity as Nagas. as a mark of resentment for the brutal murder and tribute to innocent victim a 12 hour total shutdown will be observed in all Naga areas of Manipur from 6 am to 6 pm of Monday.”
The UNC has also warned of further agitation if it’s demand is not fulfiled within 2 days.
