Manipur trade unions protest privatisation of PSUs

Trade union members will stage a protest in front of the Parliament ahead of 2023-24 Budget session if their demands are not met
Several trade unions in Manipur under the banner of Coordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur today staged a sit-in against privatisation of public sector undertakings such as airports, banks, BSNL among others.
Members of the trade unions along with BSNL employees demonstrated in front of the BSNL headquarters in Imphal.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Manipur State Committee and convenor of Coordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur, Kshetrimayum Santa accused the BJP government of favouring corporates and taking up various neo-liberal economic policies. He demanded that the government immediately retract its decision to privatise BSNL, airports, banks and other PSUs.
He further demanded that the old pension scheme be restored by scrapping the new pension scheme to ease the condition of the employees working in the public sector undertakings (PSUs).
Other demands of the coordinating body include filling up vacant posts and universal ration system to all.
Santa went on to disclose that a large number of trade union members will stage a protest in front of the Parliament ahead of 2023-24 Budget session if their demands are not met.
