Manipur: Police seize 640 grams Heroin from a truck with Nagaland registration number, 2 held

According to police sources, the truck was heading towards Kangpokpi from the Imphal side
Manipur Police seized suspected heroin powder weighing 640 grams from a 12-wheeler truck with a Nagaland registration number and arrested the driver and the handyman of the truck in the connection.
The arrested persons have been identified as–38-year-old Salam Devan Singh (Driver), a resident of Keibul Lamjao Forest Mamang in Bishnupur district of Manipur and 28-year-old Ningombam Chenish (handyman) hailing from Imphal-East, Manipur.
According to police sources, the truck was heading towards Kangpokpi from the Imphal side on Monday (January 30, 2023).
A joint team from the Kangpokpi district police conducted a checking operation at the Thingbongjang village market shed (Corona Bazar) area along NH-2 in Kangpokpi district based on a tip-off.
However, due to the non-availability of the concerned Executive Magistrate and the required mechanics, the vehicle was kept guarded for the whole night.
On January 31, police recovered 54 soap boxes of Heroin No. 4 powder that were hidden inside a wooden speaker box in the front driver cabin after thoroughly checking the truck.
Besides, police have also recovered two mobile phones, a driving licence, and a black JBL-1100-watt speaker that was used for concealing the seized drugs.
Police have registered an FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 against them.
The accused persons were produced before the court on January 31 and remanded into police custody till February 9, 2023.
