Manipur Police IGP attacked by mob; convoy torched

In yet another incident of violence in Manipur, an Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Manipur Police, Kabib K, was attacked and his convoy torched. Another policeman, who was part of his escort team, was attacked too. The incident took place late on Monday night at Kwakeithel in Imphal West.

As per the Manipur Police, IGP Kabib K., a 2005 batch IPS officer, and his convoy was attacked by a mob. The police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the mob.

The Manipur police have so far arrested 30 people in connection with the incident and said that raids will continue to apprehend more people involved in the incident.

The Manipur Police, condemning the attack on the IPS officer, wrote, “The Manipur Police condemns the dastardly attack meted out against Shri Kabib K, IPS IGP (Z-II) and his escort personnel yesterday at Kwakeithel, Imphal West.”

The Manipur Police also appealed to the people to stay away from any anti-social activities and made it clear that any form of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

“It is hereby appealed to the public not to indulge in such anti-social deeds. It will not be tolerated. 30 (thirty) persons have been arrested in connection with the incident and raids will continue to apprehend more people involved in the said incident.” Manipur police tweeted.

The Manipur Police further said that while the department is working round the clock to bring normalcy to the State, it is expected of the public to cooperate with the police authorities.

The police also warned of lawful and legal action against any person who obstructs the movement of security forces in carrying out their official duties.

“While the police is working round the clock to bring normalcy in the State, it is expected of the public to abide and co-operate with the police authorities. It is further appealed to the public that there should be no obstacle to the movement of security forces in carrying out their official duties. All lawful/ legal action will be taken up in case of any deviation and obstruction,” Manipur police tweeted.
