FIR filed, action will be initiated against those responsible for alleged assault of 4 Policemen: Manipur CM N Biren Singh

The four police personnel were returning to Kangpokpi from Imphal, when they were overtaken by armed men at Koirengei and frisked away blindfolded.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh today said that an FIR has been filed and necessary legal action will be taken against those responsible for the alleged abduction and assault of 4 Policemen in the state on Saturday.

Speaking to the media in Imphal, Chief Minister Biren Singh said that the government is looking into the matter.

Barely two days after security forces rescued a CRPF jawan from the hands of armed miscreants, four police personnel stationed at Kangpokpi Police Station were abducted along the National Highway 2 at Koirengei in Imphal East by armed men and brutally assaulted yesterday.

The four police personnel were returning to Kangpokpi from Imphal, when they were overtaken by armed men at Koirengei and frisked away blindfolded.

Narrating their ordeal, one of the victims said, more than 30 armed men overtook and pulled them out of the vehicle. The Policemen were blindfolded and taken to an unknown location, where they were beaten up black and blue.

The victim added that the armed men accused them of supporting the other community and subjected them to various forms of torture, even threatening to kill them, holding a firearm to their foreheads.

Later on, the victims were dropped off at Khong-hampat, where they were released after warning them not to speak about the incident.
