Manipur Govt Provides Rs 41,000 To Families Of IDPs In Event Of Death, Informs CM N Biren

CM N Biren stated that out of the Rs 41,000, Rs 11,000 is allocated for cremation and Rs 30,000 for performing religious and customary rituals

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh informed the Assembly on Monday that the state government is providing Rs 41,000 to families of internally displaced people (IDPs) living in relief camps in the event of a death to cover the cost of last rites.

Responding to a question from Sugnu AC MLA K. Ranjit, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that out of the Rs 41,000, Rs 11,000 is allocated for cremation and Rs 30,000 for performing religious and customary rituals.

K. Ranjit, citing a report published by a local daily, claimed that IDPs staying in a relief camp in the Bishnupur district had not received assistance for the last rites. The MLA further alleged that the IDPs had to contribute their own money to hold the last rites.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, however, refuted these claims and criticized the local daily for exaggeration.

He added that over 6,000 IDPs have received skill training under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), and 91 of them have found employment outside Manipur.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh also noted that the state government is continuously addressing the needs of the IDPs.

“Doctors and nurses visit them twice a week for medical checkups. The IDPs are provided with medicines free of cost,” Chief Minister Singh added.

“Medicines are provided both free of cost and at subsidized rates, and necessary arrangements are made to assist their treatment at government hospitals,” Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said.

He also mentioned that provisions have been made to provide meals to IDPs admitted to JNIMS and RIMS, so they do not face any inconvenience.

“The state government is working to resolve the crisis so that displaced people can return to their homes,” Chief Minister N Biren Singh said.
