This move represents a homecoming for L. Jayentakumar Singh as he returns to the party after a brief stint with the NPP.
In a significant political development, 8 individuals, including former two-time minister and ex-NPP MLA L. Jayentakumar Singh, joined the Congress party in Manipur today.
The politicians who joined the Congress include ward members, politicians, and retired government officials, marking a notable shift in the political landscape of Manipur.
Oinam Romen, who contested the 2022 state assembly elections from the Singjamei constituency has also joined the Congress.
For L. Jayentakumar Singh, this move represents a homecoming, as he returned to the party after a brief stint with the NPP.
Among the other members joining the Congress are:
A. Okendra Singh, former ZP member from Khurai Constituency
L. Dhiren, a social worker from Andro Constituency
Th. John Singh, a retired government employee from Wangkhei Constituency
L. Gayendro Singh, ex-councillor from Singjamei Constituency
R.K. Sachi Singh, ex-councillor from 17 Singjamei Constituency
O. Nilachand Singh, ward member from 17 Singjamei Constituency
L. Romen Singh, ward member from 16 Singjamei Constituency
L Jayenta had served as a minister in the Okram Ibobi government while he was in Congress, and had also attained cabinet berth in the subsequent N Biren Singh government, where NPP was an ally.
However, he had unsuccessfully contested the 2022 elections.
This development comes amid reports that have been doing rounds since the past few days, suggesting that NPP MLAs in the state are likely to withdraw support to the N Biren Singh government.
