Arsonning of UCM office in Manipur: Massive protest against alleged government inaction

The UCM leadership has sought clarification from the Manipur Government over the incident of arson

The United Committee Manipur today staged a sit-in protest against the arsoning of its office during the early hours of February 23rd.

The sit in was organised in front of the party office at Lamphel.

Hundreds of people from various communities were seen participating in the protest holding placards condemning the act of arson.

Speaking to the media, President of UCM Joychandra Konthoujam alleged that the Manipur government is yet to take any steps to apprehend the miscreants involved in the act.
The UCM leader said, “The Manipur Government has not said anything about the incident. The Manipur Government should clarify on this.”
On February 24, the United Committee Manipur had lashed out at the state government for failing to prevent the arson incident at its office. Organising Secretary of UCM N Shanta termed intelligence failure as the reason fo the incident.
N Shanta also questioned the alleged failure of security personnel, as the incident took place barely 100-200 metres from the Lamphel Police Station.
On February 25, Manipur CM N Biren Singh had said that his government will take strong action and steps against incidents of arson that took place in the past few days in the state and reign in the law and order situation.
CM N Biren Singh had said that though the overall situation had improved, there is a law and order situation in the town since some miscreants were trying to derail peace and tranquility.
