First & last agenda for NE is development: DoNER Min G. Kishen Reddy

The NEC Plenary meet in Guwahati today stressed on numerous aspects pertaining to development of Northeast. Among these include connectivity, agricultural economy besides others

DoNER minister G Kishen Reddy today said that stable government at the Centre and the respective Northeast states has ensured proper development in the region. The Union minister’s statement came after the conclusion of the Northeast Council plenary meet in Guwahati chaired by Union Home minister Amit Shah. While stating about the topmost agenda of the meeting, Reddy said that it was decided to fast track the process of development in the Northeast. The DoNER minister said that Prime Minister Modi wants the entire region to develop in every aspect; while maintaining that development of Northeast is always the first and the last agenda. Apart from this, talks also focused on the mission to tackle floods in the Northeast especially in Assam, bringing investors to the region, enhancing agricultural economy, ushering permanent peace in the region. Reddy said that the Centre is also mulling a separate agricultural policy for Northeast owing to certain conditions for which central funds remain non-utilized. Besides, deliberations on improving road, rail, air and water connectivity also topped the agenda of the meeting, G Kishen Reddy informed. The Union minister further stated that the stakeholders in the meeting have decided to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Shillong for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Northeast Council.
