Construction of the Majuli-Jorhat bridge over the river Brahmaputra is on the right track and it is expected to be completed within the scheduled time.

After chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s inspection last year, the construction of the much anticipated bridge has been going on in full swing.

Of the 70 pillars, the construction of 68 pillars have been completed so far.

Officials informed that the construction of the remaining two pillars will also be completed soon.

A construction worker, speaking to media said, “ The pillars 25 and 26 are yet to be put up, the other pillars have been put up, by the end of the year we will try to complete all the pillars. We are happy that the work is proceeding at a fast pace and before the rainy season starts we will try to complete as much of the work as possible.”

It is expected that the construction of the 6.8 kilometre two-lane bridge will be completed by 2026.

Once functional, the bridge will make reaching Majuli much easier and give a further boost to tourism in the world’s largest river island.
