In September, the Himanta Biswa Sarma cabinet had approved for at least 3 promotions to all ranks of the Assam Police personnel.
In a big push towards ensuring better policing for a crime-free society, the Assam Police today promoted over 25,000 constables in a single day. The total number of constables promoted are 28,813.
In a first of its kind, the Assam Police constables have been promoted to next rank of Lance Naik (L/Nk).
Terming it as historic, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the shared the information in a post on X.
The Chief Minister posted, “Today is a historic day for the Assam Police, with 28,813 constables being promoted to the next rank of L/Nk in a single day. This includes 21,275 from the Armed Branch and 7,538 from the Unarmed Branch. These promotions are a significant step that will surely motivate our police force to work diligently towards a crime-free Assam.”
Assam DGP GP Singh responding to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s post said, “We would leave no stone unturned to achieve the target Sir. Grateful for addressing the long standing issue of promotions at the junior most ranks.”
DGP GP Singh also shared the information and appreciated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s decision for at least 3 promotions to all ranks of the Assam Police.
DGP Singh posted, “A historic day in the annals of @assampolice 28,813 Constables promoted in one day to next rank of L/Nk. Of these, 21,275 belong to Armed Branch and 7538 belong to Unarmed Branch.
Gratitude to Hon CM Assam Sjt @himantabiswa Sir for approving landmark minimum assured three promotions to all ranks. The entire Assam Police family is grateful to Hon @CMOfficeAssam and @mygovassam (Home Department).”
This development is indeed a quick action after the Himanta Biswa Sarma cabinet had in September approved a career development scheme which assures at least three promotions from the rank of constable after every eight years of service.
Under this Assured Career Progression scheme, a constable will now rise to the rank of a Lance Naik, then Naik and then to Havildar or Head Constable in a span of 24 years, which will be besides the normal course of promotion.
