Good news for Contract Teachers: Assam Government to Issue Appointment Letters Tomorrow

First Published: 1st September, 2024 14:12 IST

The announcement follows the lifting of a stay order by the Supreme Court, which had previously delayed the process.

In a move that would come as a big relief for contract teachers across Assam, the state government is set to fulfill a long-standing demand by distributing appointment letters to nearly 24,000 educators.

A total of 23,956 teachers, who have been awaiting permanent appointments, will receive their official letters of employment tomorrow.

The much-anticipated distribution ceremony will take place at the Khanapara Ground in Guwahati on Monday. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will preside over the event.

The announcement follows the lifting of a stay order by the Supreme Court, which had previously delayed the process.

This development comes as a major victory for contract teachers, who have been advocating for their permanent appointments for years.

The appointment letters are expected to provide job security and improved benefits, bringing much-needed stability to Assam’s education sector, Suranjana Senapati, Director Elementary Education, Government of Assam said.
