Assam Police busts fake currency racket in Guwahati; counterfeit notes worth Rs 10 lakh recovered

This is the 3rd biggest seizure of fake notes within a month in Assam
In a big breakthrough, the Assam Police busted a fake currency racket in Guwahati. Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) to the tune of Rs 10 lakh was seized from the possession of 2 accused identified as Shariful Islam and Sajadul Islam.
As per inputs, the fake notes were packed in 20 bundles and the accused duo are also involved in gold smuggling. Both the accused had come to Guwahati 3 days ago from Bihpuria in Lakhimpur district and were staying in a lodge.
Further probe into the matter is underway.
On August 22, the Special Task Force (STF) Assam police had apprehended 3 FICN dealers in Goalpara district.
The arrested people were identified as Anowar Hussain, Rafique Ahmed and Krowel Marak, all residents of Krishnai area in Goalpara district.
29 bundles of FICN of 500 denominations to the tune of Rs 14.50 lakh were recovered from the vehicle.
On August 12- Guwahati City Police apprehended a suspect and confiscated a high-tech currency printing machine as well as counterfeit notes worth Rs 8 lakh. 1 person was arrested in connection with the case who was identified as Mannan Mallik.
